Vertical fluid switches are mounted on the top or bottom of a tank or vessel. Each vertical fluid switch has two parts: a stem and a float. The stem is stationary and attaches to the top or bottom of a tank, with one or more reed switches hermetically sealed inside and wires going to the outside of the tank. The float is a doughnut shaped object placed around the stem that rises and falls with the level of the liquid. When the level of the float aligns with the level of the reed switch inside the stem, it magnetically actuates the reed switch, sending an electrical signal through the wires to the outside of the tank.
For more information please see our Application note, Normal Positions of Fluid Switches. All of our vertical switches are customizable. We meet our customers’ individual needs such as materials, float size, fitting style, creating custom lead-out lengths from just a few inches to 20 feet or more, and others.Normal Positions of Fluid Switches
Full Size Stainless Steel Vertical Float Switches
These 316 stainless steel vertical float switches are corrosion resistant, with high temperature capability and exceptional float buoyancy. Ideal for liquid level tank applications, these durable switches are also suited for hazardous locations and harmful liquid materials. Normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) configurations are available, with high power and single pole – double throw (SPDT) float switch options. Applications include wastewater, oil and gas industry, machine tool, marine, industrial equipment and manufacturing, agriculture, and food processing. The switches conform to UL- Class 1 Div 1 Grp. A, B, C, D.
Plastic Float Level Switches
Cost-effective and dependable, our plastic liquid level and float switches come in two material options. Polypropylene fluid switches are best for general use with water or acids, while nylon stems with Buna floats provide superior buoyancy for petroleum fluids and hydraulic oils. Applications include aquariums, HVAC, medical, and marine uses.
Miniature Stainless Steel Vertical Float Switches
With a 1” diameter float, SMD’s corrosion-resistant miniature 316 stainless steel float switches are ideal for applications where smaller devices are required. Superior flexibility and pricing options are available through custom configurations, such as normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) operation. Common industries include food and beverage, marine, wastewater, chemical processing, breweries and wineries, and bioprocessing.
Specialty Plastic Vertical Float Switches
Our specialty plastic vertical float switches offer dependability at cost-effective prices. Standard offerings include polypropylene pan switches and bulkhead mount switches. These plastic float switches are ideal for general use, potable water, or acids. Lead-out options include a standard 13" PVC lead or 48" ZIP cord for remote wiring.
