If you’re a business in the United Kingdom in need of fluid controls, float switches, level sensors, liquid leak detection, or other custom or OEM sensor applications, the people at SMD Fluid Switch are the team to call. Offering standard prefabricated options and fully customized solutions to meet your specific needs, SMD Fluid Switch is can design switches with a wide variety of configurations and materials like stainless steel and polypropylene.
Vertical Float Switches
Vertical float switches consist of a stem and float and are mounted to either the top or bottom of the tank. A magnetic reed switch is contained inside, with a Normally Open or Normally Closed configuration. While we have close to a dozen standard vertical float models, custom options are available. FS20 Stainless Steel Vertical Switch: Ideal for high-pressure applications, and made from 316 stainless steel.
FS12 Miniature Plastic Vertical Switch: Perfect for general uses including potable water or corrosive liquids, with a cost-effective price.
Horizontal Float Switches
Horizontal float switches are mounted to the side of a vessel. When liquid levels in the tank rise or fall past the level of the float, the internal circuit is opened or closes and the switches activated or deactivated. Similarly, vertical float switches may be used, attached to 90-degree mounts at a
designated height. Click here to view our standard horizontal float switches.
FH07 & FH08 Horizontal Switches: Made from polypropylene or nylon, these switches provide point-level sensing with their pivot-style design. Normally Open or Normally Closed function is possible simply by rotating the switch 180-degrees.
FH09 90-Degree Side Mount Switch: This stainless steel float is mounted at a 90-degree bend to provide point-level sensing from a standard vertical switch. Capable of sensing in temperatures up to 125°C and 250 PSIG pressure, this is a great switch for applications where heavy-duty hardware is required.
Ultrasonic Liquid Level Sensors
Ultrasonic liquid level sensors use sound waves to provide continuous data. Sound waves are directed at the top of the liquid from above, and the sensor calculates depth based on the time it takes the reflected waves to return. This is ideal for applications where non-contact is required. Click here to view all of our ultrasonic liquid level sensors.
FL50 Ultrasonic Point Level Sensor: Great for applications where chemical resistance is paramount including those involving oils, slurries, and wastewater, the FL50 is an ultrasonic gap level sensor made from tough nylon or durable polypropylene, fully customizable depending on your application’s specific needs.
Optical Liquid Level Sensors
Optical liquid level sensors contain no moving parts and can sense the presence or absence of fluid. They work by emitting infrared light and measuring the amount which returns; in the presence of fluid less light is bounced back to the original point. Optical switches are excellent for point level detection and other specialty applications.
OS950 Optical Liquid Level Sensor: The OS950 is a miniature optical level sensor defined by its polymer exterior, which is ideal for applications where harsh washdown or sterilization is required. This can include dialysis systems, medical equipment, washers, and more.
