Liquid level sensors are essential components in a variety of industrial applications. For many of these applications, the liquid media being measured is relatively benign, such as plain water and many non-corrosive chemicals.
In applications involving combustible fluids or gases, however, great care has to be taken to ensure both safety and chemical compatibility.
SMD Fluid Controls is a leading designer and manufacturer of industrial liquid level sensors for a wide range of applications, including those with a combustible liquid present.

Sensors for Combustible Fluids
Depending on the exact nature of the application and the liquid medium being measured (gasoline, petroleum-based oils, oil-based paint, acetone, benzene, ethanol, cleaning solvents, et cetera), a variety of different level sensors may be ideal for your specific application.
SMD offers sensors made with 316 stainless steel and Buna-N nitrile, ideal for use with gasoline and many other petroleum-based products.

For applications where non-contact level sensing is optimal due to problematic liquid media or safety concerns, SMD Fluid Controls offers ultrasonic liquid level sensors such as the FL-LL, made with 316 stainless steel and functional in pressures up to 250 PSIG.
Temperature monitoring can also be extremely important for applications involving combustible and explosive materials, for obvious reasons. In these cases, level sensors with integrated temperature sensing capabilities may be desired. SMD Fluid Controls’ FM22, a combination float switch, and temperature sensor, fits this bill perfectly.
