Tank level controls are necessary for a variety of industries and industrial applications. Chemical processing, water storage and treatment, food and beverage processing, marine applications, and more all rely in some form or another on automated tank level control systems.
If you’re looking for float switches or other liquid level sensors for such a system, SMD Fluid Controls has a variety of options available, including custom multilevel float switches, individual horizontal or vertically-mounted float switches, optical and ultrasonic sensors, and more. Custom design, production, and OEM services are also available.
Standard or custom tank level control switches from SMD Fluid Controls can be used with valves, pumps, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and more to create a comprehensive tank level control system.
Pump Down Tank Level Control Systems
For pump down applications, or those where water or other liquids must be removed from a tank when levels become too high (thus avoiding dangerous pressure build-up or overflow), two independent float switches or other level sensors may be used: one activated when fluid levels reach a high point and one when they reach a low point.
For instance, a vertically-mounted float switch at the top of the tank will be activated when liquid levels become too high, activating a pump to remove water and lower levels. A separate switch at the bottom will then deactivate the circuit when levels are low enough, turning off the pump. Multilevel switches may also be used, but
Pump Up Tank Level Control Systems
Similarly, in pump up applications, a bottom switch or sensor will activate a pump when liquid levels reach a specified low threshold, pumping liquid into the tank and raising levels. A top sensor will deactivate the pump when fluid levels have reached their upper limit within the tank.
Integrated Systems & More
In many applications, some combination of pump up and pump down control systems are necessary. For example, a reserve tank with a pump down control system could be used in conjunction with a pump up-outfitted tank intended for regular use. Multichannel “ladder” systems may also be utilized in a single tank, for more complex applications.
